Scale Up (SU) is IBM's term for proprietary systems that focus on extreme high availability, low core counts, and high per-core throughput. These systems typically support proprietary per-CPU licensed software such as AIX, IBM i, and Oracle, and tend to use high core threading levels such as SMT8.

Contrast with Scale Out (SO).
