Baseboard Management Controller (BMC): Service processor which runs whenever the system is energised. Handles power on, power off and reboot requests and optionally provides remote management functionality. Implements IPMI and performs necessary baseboard initialization prior to CPU power on. Monitors CPU temperatures and sets fan speeds appropriately.

The Talos II mainboard uses the AST2500 for the hardware role by default and the open source OpenBMC stack for the software role by default, although Arctic Tern can be used for the hardware role instead, and BangBMC can be used for the software role instead.
